[INTRANET] - Custom Citrix Resource Manager Web Interface / Query Engine
My Citrix Resource Manager Interface / Query engine Example
Objectives:
There were several business requirements for tracking the use of a newly installed Citrix Presentation Server Farm, Specifically:
  • Data: Track User logon / logoff times
  • Data: Audit application use
  • Data: Provide grouping by VLAN
  • Interface: Remember selections / settings
  • Interface: Provide exportable results
CEO of business primary user of application, so had to be intuitive and totally robust.
Result:
I created a customised query page to look-up the data in the Citrix resource manager database configurable by: Date Range, Server, User, Application and VLAN.

I created this system by reverse engineering the excellent work of Jason Conger and using some elements of his code to create a quick and tidy series of pages for querying the Citrix Resource Manager Database.

Database was MS SQL 2005. The database schema I partially got from a combination of Jason's code, database table anaylsis and by tracing database activity.

[INTRANET] - Web Active Directory Lookup / Search Utility
Objectives:
During migration work, there were dozens of requests to check user credentials and user status within Active Directory. These requests were from Application teams, Project Teams, Line Managers and IT technicians. All had different levels of access and knowledge and all required similar information at different times, always along the lines of:
  • Data: Profile Path
  • Data: Group Memebership
  • Data: Last accessed date
  • Data: Links to external application site/s for user
Result:
I created a simple interface to enable all staff to query active directory (regardless of AD knowledge level) by user or groups. At the same time providing all the account properties and necessary links to make everyones work easier and quicker.

Results were exportable and links were automatic re-queries to speed up finding similar information via the mouse.

[INTERNET] - WWW.HEATERSANDLAMPS.COM
HeatersandLamps.com - ECommerce site
Objectives:
An existing company required an new online presence to increase their potential customers and sell their increasing range of heaters, lamps and outdoor equipment. They needed a solution that enabled them to administer everything and yet require no additional site coding once complete. There were the following requirements:
  • Intergrate with Protx Secure Payments
  • Allow site admin to administer everything
  • Provide completed solution in 6 weeks
  • Add all existing products in Database
Result:
With the timescales involved, it was unfeasable for me to create something completely from scratch for this site. After a review of available products I suggested that they use the ASPDOTNETStoreFront software, with some customisation. I extended the code and the database design to cater for their specific requirements and to better handle META tags and to create custom page templates for thier products. I took their plans from idea to fully functioning site, with all product data in the 6 weeks. I was able to make the site match all their specific requirements too.

[INTERNET] - WWW.MARKGIBBONS.COM
Objectives:
Make the MARKGIBBONS.COM brand recognised for my marketting and racing activities. Showcase my abilities as an IT Consultant / Professional, and generally provide some of my racing experience back to the world. I had the following goals
  • Make it professional / good
  • Make it Racing themed and styled
  • Make it extendable for future additions
  • Showcase my IT abilities for future employment
Result:
I completed the design of the site with some inspiration from a couple of other sites. I have incorporated the best elements of these sites, my own ideas and modified everything for my own unique requirements. I've used Flash for the main site menu and it dynamically loads the XML sitemap via a custom handler I've created to do this. Content is still coming and generally I'm pretty happy with it! I've recently added this "IT" section to better help distinguish it from the racing parts.

[INTRANET] - Visual Phone Book
Visual PhoneBook / Phone Directory
Objectives:
The users in part of a migration project from one company to another, needed a local intranet based visual phone book system for thier staff to use. There were the following requirements:
  • Administrator able to add | edit | remove details
  • Ability to search, by department, building or name
  • Image inclusion should be optional
  • System to be produced in 1 week
Result:
Created a simple webpage that allows the lookup of the users based on search criteria. Additionally created an administrative section that allowed for the admin of all the database tables within the database. Image handling was controlled with a simple upload to a virtual directory on the website through the admin interface, with a standard placeholder for entries without images.

[INTRANET] - Restricted Directory Lookup
Objectives:
The users from an existing company were being integrated into the new parent company and needed to access certain elements of the parent company's directory systems, but were not permitted to access them directly (as too much classified information was available). So there was a need to present a subset of this data securely to these users.
  • Secure, only permitted informaion available
  • Searchable
  • Standalone doesn't effect existing systems
  • Not an official solution !
Result:
I created a custom (essentially a cutdown version of original site) search page that in the background of a request directly connected to the other site and did the search, waited for the results and then provided the allowed subset of the data back (via ScreenScrape and RegularExpressions) to the user. Access to the other site was done directly on the webserver so this satisfied the security issues. The system required no maintenence as it was simply an interface / gateway to the other site and held no data.
